Producing engineers capable of managing businesses by making use of information and system technology

Industrial and Systems Engineering - Supporting the Computerization of Industry and Society

In recent years, advanced control systems that utilize information technology have enabled industry to provide high-quality products and services that satisfy customers. Those systems fully employ scientific techniques and technologies that are created in the field of industrial and systems engineering (management engineering).
Industrial and systems engineering is a set of scientific techniques that is designed for rational management (operation, control). It helps business to plan, produce, ship, sell, and recycle their products, information, or services by making use of information system technology. Because of that, industrial and systems engineering needs systems that integrate various kinds of technology; engineering technology necessary to create hardware; technology related to "environment" factors; technology that controls "human" factors; technology that controls "social" factors such as laws and accounting. Industrial and systems engineering is also responsible for operating such systems optimally.

Learning industrial and systems engineering in small groups

In this department, students learn a variety of management (operation, control) technologies that utilizes information system technology. In the second year, they choose one of the two courses, "Information and Environment Course" and "Business and Production Course," and study about more specialized technology in a systematic way.
Our curriculum emphasizes the acquisition of information technology from the first year onward. Students learn thoroughly about network systems, C language programming, database systems, system design and other subjects in small group seminars. From the second year on, students take classes in five different areas of system technology, such as business management, production, information, environment and humanity. In this way, towards the end of the four years, they will be equipped with solid knowledge in advanced system technology and be able to operate and design the most suitable systems for business management and operation by employing information technology they have learned in the four years.

Information and Environment Course

Based on information technology and system technology, students are expected to learn techniques for developing more advanced information systems and network systems, and for designing and operating human- and environment-related systems.

Business Management and Production Course

Taking full advantage of information technology and system technology, students will learn techniques for designing and operating systems which will make new ways of production possible, as well as excellent business management that can keep up with rapidly-changing needs.
