Faculty of Science and Engineering : Department of Living and Environmental Design
Learn state-of-the-art ecology and design for a beautiful living space to achieve harmony with nature.
In designing a dwelling environment, our students pursue the creation of a comfortable environment for all kinds of people to live in, such as an eco-friendly living environment or living space that is suited to an aging society with a low birth rate. This department makes sure that they learn the foundation of ergonomics and design for daily living situations in small-group classes.
We help them acquire an accurate grasp of the issues concerning living environments, including the geo-environment and creativity for a sustainable living environment. With planning, design and construction skills, they can expect to become a designer, planner or engineer who realizes a human-and-eco-friendly living or regional space.

In order to provide a human-friendly living environment and regional space for all kinds of people, students are required to have a prominent design sense, accurate knowledge of the environment and practical technologies. Our curriculum covers a full range of knowledge of color, interiors and history to promote inspiration, and helps them acquire the technology they can use to improve a living environment, including the geo-environment.
They can acquire the abilities necessary to be a designer or technician in a well-balanced way.
Nurture the abilities demanded by society through practice and investigation.
We train students to get ready for the real world through abundant exercises and field investigations. For example, a formative practice and a design practice give students basic design skills. In seminars they acquire solid knowledge of the environmental arrangement of a regional space through investigation and analysis of typical dwellings and regions. At the same time, they will acquire communication and presentation skills that are both integral in the real world.
