Department of Living and Environmental Design

Nature and Human, we are all part of one unified living system

Our innovative programs combine Ecology, Design, and Information Technology (IT) for the pursuit of beautiful living environment in harmony with Nature.

In designing a dwelling environment, we pursue the creation of a comfortable living environment generated by our concept "Ecology x Design +IT" which underlies our educational method where students learn how to induce effective methods and technologies to use Nature and its resources to their potentials.

In order to respond to the ongoing worldwide search for a better, sustainable "Living Environment", we need pioneering technologies to use our limited energy and resources effectively. At the same time, we need innovative designs that can fuse multicultural and regionally diverse community and climates that can enrich both the personal and social living qualities.

We strive to nurture future Architects, Interior and Product designers, and Environmental engineers and supervisors with these sustainable, innovative, and holistically ecological visions.

Specific aims of our programs:

  • Nurture visions and knowledge to create "human/organism-friendly" living environment.
  • Interdisciplinary, practical, and holistic investigations in environmental design and engineering skills.
  • Education covering wide range of "living environment" professions, containing: Architectural, Interior, Product, and Structural Designers, Lighting and Environmental (HVAC) Engineers, and Management and Planning.
  • Continuous field experiments and practical trainings from the first (freshmen) year.

Example Elements we consider

-Green: Landscape making and for resolving heat-island issues leading to global warming.
-Light :Enhanced usage of natural Lighting for comfort and spacious expressions.
-Water :Health city creation by analyzing water quality and inducing better waterfront designs.
-Heat: Not only limited to buildings, but pursuit of total city wind flow.
-Human: Designing of a community signifying the relationship among people.
