研究室の概要
微生物学研究室では、主に枯草菌を研究材料として、胞子(芽胞)の構造、形成機構、発芽機構の解明などの基礎研究に取り組んでいます。胞子は納豆菌や炭疽菌などの細菌が厳しい条件下で生き残るために形成する特殊な細胞です。あまり馴染みのない存在と思いますが、気付かないところで日々の暮らしと関わっています。例えば食品衛生や品質管理、感染症や食中毒の防止など、薬剤師の業務とも関係があります。枯草菌は納豆などの食品や健康に役立つプロバイオティクスの生産、有用物質の工業生産、研究などに利用され、私達の生活に役立っています。一方で、食品や飲料などを腐らせる危害細菌としても知られています。
