White Horse Theatre Shook Setsunan Again!
October 17, 2016
On October 13, 2016, Setsunan welcomed four talented actors of White Horse Theatre for their performance of "Promised Land" and "The Slug in the Shoe," both written by Peter Griffith. This is the second year that Setsunan students meet the touring company.
The first play "Promised Land" presents a life of a boy, Ravi, who fled from war in his country. Audience saw Ravi learning English to survive, struggle to live in a foreign country lawfully, and face a severe reality in the community. Students were absorbed to this serious play, speechless, until the "after talk" session began. They commented "The play was so good. What I studied about refugees in class turned more 'real' after seeing this." "It was powerful and impressive. Still, the play had funny moments when it comes to language learning episodes." "Moved." "I must treat a refugee as a human, not just as a refugee."
The second play "The Slug in the Shoe" is a comedy over classic issues such as love and parent-child relationship in the contemporary setting. Composed in very simple English, the play with four characters made audience laugh and think through 60 minutes. Students wrote; "The actors in their 20s really looked 13 on stage!!" "I liked the scene that parents jog together. " "Can't wait to see the 2017 show."
The four actors amazed us by performing completely different types of characters and stories in one afternoon, and also, being so energetic and attractive after the shows. It was our pleasure to welcome young professionals who cooperatively work abroad like them as role models for university students.
